Lady Dons play tuff against Willow Glen, and come away with a tie.
(Del Mar 1 - Willow Glen 1)
In their first meeting at Willow Glen the Rams controlled the game from start to finish and took the Lady Dons down in a lopsided 4 - 0 win. But that wasn't the case in the game Friday. The Lady Dons came out on fire and dominated the play for the first half. With clean well executed passing Del Mar kept the Rams on their heels and kept the ball in the Willow Glen half of the field for the majority of the half. The Willow Glen goalie had her work cut out for her, as she fended off several shots on goal, but one got passed her by #8 Maricala Padilla and the half ended with the Lady Dons up 1-0. The second half began much as the first had ended, with the Dons moving the ball very well up field, but slowly the tide began to change, and the Rams come together. Gradually the momentum shifted to the Rams and they found themselves pushing down the field and getting more shots on goal than they had in the first half. The Lady Dons held them off as long as they could but eventually in the late part of the half one of the Rams shots found net and tied it at 1. With only minutes to go both teams made valiant efforts to get the winning goal but it ended in a stalemate. 1-1.
It was a great turnaround for the Lady Dons from their last meeting with the Rams who currently hold the top spot in the league with a 9-0-1 record. Del Mar is holding in 3 place behind Live Oak, with a record of 8-2-1.

The Spark is Back, Lady Dons Dominate Westmont and Oak Grove
(Del Mar 1 - Westmont 0)
(Del Mar 6 - Oak Grove 0)
This week it looked like the Lady Dons found that spark again. The energy and dominance the Lady Dons played with the before the Holiday break seemed to be back in full. In both games this week (vs. Westmont Wednesday and vs. Oak Grove Friday) the Lady Dons took control of the game and kept control. In the Wednesday game versus Westmont, the first night game of the year, Del Mar did have a battle on their hands. Westmont plays with both speed and aggression and demanded the best of the Lady Dons, and they gave it. However; the final score of 1-0 did not represent the dominance of the Lady Dons play. Del Mar played most of the game on the Westmont end of the field and had many more shots on goal than the Warriors could muster. Westmont made a good game of it, but the Dons were on fire and made it obvious that it was only a matter of time before they would pound one in.
On Friday the Lady Dons met the Eagles of Oak Grove at Oak Grove in an evening game. From start to end this game was all Dons. Del Mar scored early and often., By halftime they had a 4- 0 lead, and had many more "close ones" which either deflected off the goal or just skipped by. The second half began much like the first ended with the Lady Dons spending the majority of their time on the OG side of the field. Before it was over the Lady Dons had scored two more, and kept the Eagles from even getting close.
The week ended with 2 wins. 5 goals for Maricela Padilla and one for Rachel Schauer.
Video clips of the Westmont game will be posted soon.

Lady Dons Get Over Overfelt Late in the Game.
(Del Mar 1 - Overfelt 0)
This one wasn't a pretty game either. Looking like they still were not in sync after the long Holiday break the Lady Dons seemed to have trouble getting back into the rhythm of moving the ball smoothly down the field and getting their shots on goal. Overfelt didn't make it any easier by playing a tough and physical game. The Lady Dons found themselves on the receiving end of a lot of pushing and tripping through out the game. Most of it clean but it was obvious that Overfelt was doing their best to be the physical force in the game. The first half ended in an uneventful 0-0 tie, with neither team really getting many scoring opportunities. The second half started out much as the first half ended, but gradually the Lady Dons began to control the movement down field and were able to get off a few unsuccessful shots. Late in the half the Lady Dons found them selves in a tense moment when Maricela Padilla was knocked to the ground hard, and was very slow to get up. Some verbal back and forth between the two teams and the officials led to a pair of Yellow cards for Del Mar players Demi Nguyen and Mia Bradford. - After a penalty kick and a short rest, all three player were back on the field, and it seems, reinvigorated. The Lady Don spark seemed to come back and within minutes they had a couple very close shots on goal. Several minutes later with only about 10 to go in the game they found the groove and with an assist from Jr. Hayley Norman, Padilla got revenge with a hard shot in the right corner of the goal. Overfelt tried to rally back, and actually had a few close ones in front of the Del Mar goal. But they were unable to pull it together and get one in the net. Del Mar left Overfelt with a 1-0 win.

Wasn't pretty - Enough said.

Lady Dons improve League Record to 3-0 against Prospect.
(Del Mar 4 - Prospect 1)
In the early part of the first half the Prospect Panthers didn't look like a team that was, to this point, winless this season. And after 5 minutes of play the Panthers had jumped out to a 1-0 lead with fast agressive play on the Del Mar end of the field. But the early goal by Prospect would be their only one as they could not respond to the flurry of goals by Del Mar. 1 by Maricela Padilla, 1 by Rachel Schauer, and 2 by Gabrielle Jordan to give the Dons a 4-1 win. Live Oak battles but comes up short in the end..
(Del Mar 2 - Live Oak 1)
The undefeated Live Oak Acorns came out ready to rumble Wednesday afternoon. They were not going to lay down and let the Lady Dons take control. Live Oak put up a great defense against the Don's and kept them clear of the goal for the entire first half. Live Oak was a bit weaker on offense but their defense was doing the job and kept the game even at zero at half time. In the second half the Acorns came out looking for a score and got it about 10 minutes into the second half on a beautiful header off a corner kick. It was this Acorns goal that kicked the Lady Don's into a higher gear and got them on track to to come back and score two of there own in the remaining minutes of the game. The first by Brittany Salerno who took a pass from Padilla right in front of the goal and then punched it in for a score, and the second by the hard working Maricela Padillia who battled through the tough Acorns defense and fought until she found her shot.
Coming into the game Live Oak was undefeated in League and Pre-Season play, Del Mar hands them their first loss of the season and sits currently in 3rd position in the overall standings with a 6-1-1 record behind Live Oak at 5-1-0 and Willow Glen at 7-1-0. However in League play Del Mar is undefeated at 2-0-0 and sits tied with Willow Glen for the top spot.
Friday(Dec 19th) the Lady Dons meet up with the winless Prospect Panthers in what looks to be a cold, wet game at Prospect.

Lady Dons open up with a win against Lincoln
(Del Mar 3 - Lincoln 0)
Del Mar hasn't faced the Lincoln Lions in almost 2 years, but the losses the Lions faced in 07 must have been fresh in their minds today. They came in prepared to play a tough, physical game and try to redeem themselves from the two losses they faced in the 06-07 season. The Lions knew the Lady Dons strength and focused on #8 Senior Maricela Padillia who scored early in the first half. The Lions played her very close and several times in the first half tripped her up to prevent breakaways down field. But even the close physical play couldn't keep the Lions within striking distance.
The Lady Dons adjusted to the Lions approach and took advantage of great passing and player positioning to keep their record against Lincoln spotless. Early in the second half The Lady Dons scored again when Senior Demi Nguyen #18 followed up on a deflected penalty kick by Padillia. And then later in the half Senior fullback Hilary Mormon #14 took a penalty shot from about 40 yards out and laced a beauty in over the reach of the Lion's goalie. Giving Del Mar their 3rd and final goal.
The Lady Dons begin League Play with a victory, and next face Live Oak at home on the 17th.
