Del Mar: Cold in the Stands but HOT on the
Field!
The Lady Dons fire off 7 against Overfelt - End first half undefeated!
Friday Jan. 12 the Dons met up against a very physical Overfelt
team. But the Dons were on mission and didn't let the physical play
of Overfelt intimidate them. Things got started half way through
the first half when forward Demi Nguyen with a nice
assist by Maricella
Padilla worked her way through the Overfelt defense and
found herself one on one with the Royals goalie, and easily drove
one by her
into the net. Not more than 5 minutes later Padilla herself launched
a shot from 20 yards out that found the right corner. The first half
ended 2-0 Del Mar. In the second half the Dons got busy, and in the
final 30 minutes of the game Maricella Padilla and Lauren
Idemoto took turns frustrating the Overfelt goalie.
Both Padilla and Idemeto ended the game with 3 goals a piece. By
games end the Lady Dons had
fired off seven goals with no response from
the
Overfelt
team.
Final
score
7 -0, Del Mar.
This game ends an incredibly successful first half of the season. The Lady
Dons have a perfect record in league play (7 wins - 0 losses) and are undefeated
for the season (10-0-1). Del Mar will start the second half of the season
next Wednesday (1/17) against a very tough Westmont Warriors team.
Congratulations Lady Dons! - on a Great first half.

Dons battle to a win at Willow Glen
It helps when your forward is indestructible!
Traveling to Willow Glen, the Lady Dons found themselves face to face with
a very tuff Rams team. With several strong players Willow Glen seemed to
control the first half of the game against a uncharacteristically sluggish
Del Mar team. The first half ended 0-0. When the second half started the
Lady Don's came back to life, and controlled the field much more than in
the first half. Then came the scare. About 15 minutes into the second half
forward Maricella Padilla was knocked off her feet during a shot attempt,
she had to be helped off the field with a twisted ankle. The Lady Don's
continued to play tuff ,minus Padilla, with aggressive play from Demi Nguyen
and Ashlynn Polini, and some key saves by goalie Claudine Jimenez, who
was filling in for an injured Suzanne Bernd. After a 10 minute recovery
Padilla got herself back in the game and made a statement that she was
feeling fine, catching the Willow Glen goalie off guard Maricella powered
past a defender and flicked a shot cross goal into the right corner. Several
Minutes later Padilla found herself going one on with the WG goalie and
drilled one by her. Final score 2-0.
The Dons complete the first half of the season Friday at home against Overfelt.

Dons Tame the Lions.
A strong defense keeps Lincoln quiet.
The Lady Dons came out swininging (or kicking as the case may be) against
the Lincoln Lions Friday in the Del Mar bowl. Del Mar out shot the Lions
by a ratio of 5:1. But it was the Dons strong defensive play and some great
saves by goalie Suzanne Bernd that made sure the Dons came off the field
with a win. The Lion's aggressive play and strong goalie held the Dons
to only one score (#8 Maricella Padilla) in the first half. This win bumps
the Lady Dons record to 5-0 in league play.
The Dons travel to Willow Glen next Wednesday.

Starting the New Year right!
Lady Dons almost wear out the net.
Coming back from a long Holiday Break the Lady Don's traveled to Oak Grove
to get back in the swing of things, and it didn't take long. By the end
of the first half the score was Del Mar 5 and Oak Grove 1. The scoring
didn't stop there...the offense kept up a strong push and scored another
5 goals in the second half. With a final score of Del Mar 10, Oak Grove
1, it was a nice way to start the New Year.
Next up - Lincoln at home Friday 01/05/07 - Go Dons!

It took 79 minutes but...
It was worth the wait!
The first 79 minutes of play were agony for those of us frozen (by California
standards) to the bleachers at Prospect High School. The Lady Dons were
well matched against the Prospect Panthers. Although the Dons out shot
the Panthers they couldn't quite find the net. At least not until the 79th
minute of the game when #8 Maricella Padilla found herself going one on
one with a Panther defender. After getting by the Prospect defender, Padilla
took a shot that rebounded out, but she was there to follow it up and punched
it in for the only score of the game.
The Dons now break for the Holidays with a 3-0 league record. And get a
well deserved rest. They will be back on the field "away" against
Oak Grove January 3rd.
Great Job Dons!

Dons Take on a Physical Andrew Hill Team

Andrew Hill puts up a Battle.
The Lady Dons took on Andrew Hill at Home today in a game that was both
exciting and physical. The teams were very evenly matched with the only
score coming from Sophomore "Striker" Maricella Padilla at about
25 minutes into the first half. Andrew Hill kept it exciting though scoring
what seemed to be the tying goal in the final minutes of the game, only
to have it called back by an off sides penalty. The Lady Dons were able
to stifle the Hill team in the final minutes to hang on to the win.
The Dons improve their regular season record to 2-0.
Their next game is against Prospect at Prospect Friday the 15th. With a
win against Prospect Del Mar can go into the Holiday break in 1st place
in league play.

Seeing Yellow Against Westmont
In a game that saw a lot of Yellow cards fly early, The Lady Dons kept
their focus and played extremely tough.
Westmont players drew 4 yellow cards in the first half of the game, but
that rough play couldn't intimidate the Dons. The Dons went into half time
with a 1- 0 lead. Early in the second half Westmont scored, but the Dons
came back on a penalty shot that rebounded off the right post an in for
their second goal.
The Dons start their regular season play 1-0, coming of an undefeated pre-season.
Net up, Andrew Hill on 12/13.
Del Mar starts the regular season 1-0, and has an overall record of 4 -
0 - 1 including their pre-season games. The Don's are off to a great start.
Their next game is against Andrew Hill at Home on Wednesday the 13th.
Come out and support the Lady Dons!
